What makes a great detector?

Custom Made Pyro-Electric Sensor

At the heart of every PIR sensor is the pyro-electric sensor (the “pyro”). Many manufacturers choose budget, off-the-shelf pyros. These are usually designed and made in China for low-cost lighting or non-alarm applications where the odd false trigger is not regarded as a problem.

Orisec however, know that the pyro is the single most important component in PIR design. Our pyros are custom made to our exacting standards, specifically for use in our intruder detectors. This gives the best detection pick-up coupled with unsurpassed false alarm immunity from sunlight, RF and electrical interference.

Patented Signal Processing

All Orisec PIRs feature multiple patents for their signal processing techniques. These analyse the entire shape of the incoming signal to accurately differentiate between genuine intruders and common false alarm sources. This provides faster pickup than conventional “amplitude only” PIRs, but more importantly dramatically reduce the possibility of false alarms.

Custom Made Spherical Fresnel Lenses

Modern PIRs use a Fresnel lens in front of the pyro to divide the coverage area into distinct zones. The ideal shape for this lens is spherical as this provides consistent optical focussing across all zones. Most manufacturers however compromise by using flat or cylindrical lenses as these are cheaper to tool. Not only do Orisec lenses adhere to the ideal spherical shape, they also feature micro-fine Fresnel grooves. These dramatically improve the focussing of each zone to give clear, crisp signals which improve detection pickup and help reduce false alarms.

Moreover, the Orisec multi-height optics enable the detectors to be mounted between 1.8m and 3.1m without having to adjust the PCB position.

Reliability – with a 10 Year Guarantee

All Orisec detectors are designed, manufactured and tested by Orisec in the UK. The test regime includes in-circuit testing of all components on the PCB as well as functional testing of the full circuit to ensure that it works perfectly when fitted. The Orisec internal wired detectors include a 10 year guarantee for even greater peace of mind.
